Panther Football Sets the Stage for 2026 Season with Schedule Release

3/12/2026 11:35:00 AM

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport University football team has announced its 2026 regular-season schedule, featuring an exciting lineup of 11 games, including six home contests at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex in Caledonia, Michigan.

The Panthers will enjoy four non-conference games, including three straight at home to open the season. Gannon University will be the opening-week opponent on Aug. 29, as it was in 2025. The Panthers traveled to Erie, Pa., and came home with a 21-12 win. The second game is another rematch from last season against Truman State on Sept. 5. The Bulldogs got a narrow 28-27 overtime win over the Panthers last season when DU went for a two-point conversion and the win, but threw an incomplete pass. The marquee matchup is Sept. 12 as DU will face regional power the University of Indianapolis for the first time in program history. The Greyhounds and Bulldogs faced off with each other last season in the first round of the NCAA Division II playoffs, with UIndy winning 57-14.

The first road game will be a non-conference affair against Northern Michigan at the Superior Dome on Sept. 19. The two teams played twice as well last season, with each winning on the other's field. DU won the GLIAC matchup 35-16 in Marquette, and the Wildcats won the longest game in DU football history, 47-45, in four overtimes in the non-conference designated game.

After a bye week, the Panthers begin their GLIAC schedule on the road at Saginaw Valley State on Oct. 3. Northern Michigan will be the homecoming opponent in the GLIAC contest on Oct. 10 with a 2:00 pm kick. Davenport will conclude the season with a gauntlet against the top-tier teams in the conference, starting with Ferris State on Oct. 31. November brings a road trip to Houghton against Michigan Tech on the 7th and the regular-season finale at home against Grand Valley State on the 14th.

"Having a full schedule of eleven games and six of them at home is a welcome change from the past seasons," said head coach Sparky McEwen. "The level of competition in our non-league is tremendous and exactly what you want to compete against the best. We have one focus as always, and that is playing one game at a time, and being locked in on each play! The GLIAC schedule, of course, is always the biggest challenge because of the physicality and the talent level that you see weekly. Our men have continued to work hard in the offseason, and our player development program is truly one that benefits our student-athletes!"
