Davenport Drops Pair at Tiffin to Close Non-Conference Play

TIFFIN, Ohio — The Panthers dropped both games of a Sunday doubleheader at Tiffin University, falling 7–2 in the opener before an 8–4 decision in the second game. Davenport moved to 4–18 overall while the Dragons improved to 10–8.

Game 1
Tiffin used four home runs to power past DU in the opening game of the day. The Dragons jumped out to an early 1–0 lead in the first inning when McKenna Scott tripled and later scored on an error. Jadyn Bassi added to the advantage in the second inning with a solo home run to center field, making it 2–0.

The Dragons continued to build momentum in the third inning as Jessica Miller and Reagan Mengerink each connected on home runs to push the lead to 4–0. Davenport broke through in the fifth inning when Alaina Schwanke doubled to start the rally. Pinch runner Ashley Sturgill later scored on a Madison Cole fielder's choice, and Darby Kramp followed with an RBI single that plated Kailyne Luna to cut the deficit to 6–2.

TU added one more run in the sixth inning on Miller's second home run of the game before both teams finished scoreless in the seventh. Schwanke recorded a double and finished with one of Davenport's two hits in the contest, while Kramp added an RBI single in her pinch-hit appearance. In the circle, Kayla Widner struck out five batters over two innings of relief, while Jordan Empie closed the game with a scoreless final inning.

Game 2
Davenport responded with more offensive production in the second game, collecting eight hits, but Tiffin used timely power hitting to secure the doubleheader sweep.

The Dragons struck first in the opening inning, scoring two runs with help from a Davenport error to take an early lead. The Panthers answered in the second inning as Lexie McCarty doubled to spark the offense. Grace Gilbert later scored on a wild pitch before Ally Prasnjak drew a bases-loaded walk to even the score at 2–2.

TU regained control in the third inning when Reagan Mengerink hit a two-run home run to put the Dragons back on top 4–2. After another run in the fourth extended the lead, Davenport responded again in the fifth inning. Chloe Bruman and Randi Robakowski, both entering as pinch runners, crossed the plate to trim the deficit to 5–4.

The Dragons created separation in the sixth inning when Jessica Miller launched a three-run home run, giving Tiffin an 8–4 advantage that held through the final inning.

Ashley Sturgill led Davenport at the plate with two hits and a sacrifice bunt, while Kailyne Luna and Schwanke each recorded doubles. Schwanke also drew two walks and pitched two innings in the circle, while Hannah Tahaney worked four innings in relief.
