Panthers Open GLIAC Play With Convincing Double-Digit Victory Over SVSU

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. — The Davenport University women's lacrosse team secured a decisive 17–6 victory in its GLIAC opener over Saginaw Valley State University at Bradock Field on Tuesday afternoon. Davenport's offense was propelled by a dominant first quarter, scoring seven goals to establish an early lead.

The first quarter opened with a strong performance from the Panthers (6-3, 1-0 GLIAC), as Ava Clark secured the initial goal at 14:11, marking her fifth of the season. Alyssa Bird quickly followed with her 20th goal, assisted by Jenna Gillis, giving Davenport an early lead. Elly Teliczan and Brianna Rodriguez each added to the tally, with Rodriguez's goal at 9:36 extending the lead to 4–1. The Cardinals (1-8, 0-2 GLIAC) responded with a pair of goals to cut the deficit to 4–2. However, DU continued to dominate as Addison Roe scored twice, both assisted by Gabby Basha. Jade Remacle added another goal, also assisted by Basha, pushing Davenport's lead to 7–3 by the end of the quarter.

Roe scored a player-down goal for Davenport at 11:27 in the second quarter, assisted by Brianna Rodriguez, marking Roe's 28th goal of the season. Davenport maintained momentum with Brianna Rodriguez converting a free position shot at 7:18, increasing its lead. Despite the Cardinals' efforts, Davenport maintained its advantage, ending the second quarter with a 9–5 lead.

Davenport took control in the third quarter, scoring five times while limiting the Cards to just one goal. Basha initiated the scoring run with a goal at 10:08, assisted by Gillis. Brianna Rodriguez and Bird continued the momentum, each finding the back of the net, with Bird scoring from a free position at 6:11. The Cardinals responded with a goal at 5:59, but Davenport quickly answered as Kacie Stolarek scored at 5:50. Gillis capped off the quarter with a goal at 1:35, assisted by Bird, extending Davenport's lead to 14–6 by the end of the quarter.

The Panthers dominated the final quarter with three unanswered goals, extending its lead over the Cardinals. Basha struck first just 12 seconds in, assisted by Bird. Roe capitalized on a pass from Rodriguez at 13:55, marking her 29th goal of the season. Later, Remacle added to the tally at 5:50, securing her 14th goal of the season. Defensive efforts, including two saves by Isabelle Bonillo, helped maintain Davenport's lead, resulting in a decisive 17–6 victory.
