HAMMOND, Ind. — Davenport dropped both ends of a GLIAC road doubleheader to Purdue Northwest on Sunday at Dowling Park, falling 8–0 in Game 1 and 5–1 in Game 2. Despite generating consistent traffic on the bases, the Panthers were unable to come up with timely hits, stranding 17 runners across the two contests, including 13 in the opener.
Game 1
DU created opportunities early but couldn't capitalize, stranding 13 runners on base in an 8–0 setback to the Pride in Game 1.
The Panthers threatened in the opening inning as Kailyne Luna doubled and Chloe Parker followed with a single to put runners on the corners, but Davenport left the bases loaded without scoring. PNW took advantage in the bottom half, using an error to set up an unearned run and a 1–0 lead.
The Pride broke the game open in the fourth inning. Kylie Madura launched a two-run home run, and Gracie Jensen added an RBI double to extend the lead to 4–0. Purdue Northwest added four more runs in the sixth, highlighted by a two-RBI triple from Amanda DeBoer, to seal the run-rule victory.
Kayla Widner went four innings in the circle, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits while striking out four. Jordan Empie entered in relief in the fifth.
Offensively, Kailyne Luna led the Panthers with a double, while Alaina Schwanke, Madison Cole, Chloe Parker and Lexie McCarty each recorded a hit. Cole also added a stolen base, and Sydney Drenth drew a pair of walks as Davenport totaled five hits and six free passes in the loss.
Game 2
Davenport couldn't recover from an early deficit in Game 2, falling 5–1 as Purdue Northwest used timely power to complete the sweep.
The Pride struck quickly in the first inning, scoring twice on an RBI groundout from Jensen and an RBI double by Sylvia Mudis to take a 2–0 lead.
Davenport answered in the third inning with an unearned run. Drenth reached on a walk, advanced to third on an error, and later stole home to cut the deficit to 2–1.
Purdue Northwest responded in the fifth, as Madura connected on a two-run home run to push the lead to 4–1. Mudis added a solo shot in the sixth to provide the final margin.
Hannah Tahaney worked five innings in the start, allowing four runs on five hits, while Hailey Whisman pitched the final inning in relief.
The Panthers were limited to three hits in the contest, with Cole and Kylie Hegland and Schwanke each recording a hit. Drenth accounted for Davenport's lone run and added a stolen base, while Randi Robakowski anchored the defense with five assists at shortstop.
