Panthers Close Weekend with Loss to Cavs

NORTH CANTON, Ohio — The Davenport University women's lacrosse team fell to Walsh University, 15-10, on Sunday (March 8) at Larry Staudt Field. Despite a strong fourth-quarter surge where Davenport netted five goals, the Cavaliers' consistent scoring and five power-play goals secured their victory.

DU took an early lead in the opening quarter when Jade Remacle scored the opening goal at 13:48. Walsh responded with back-to-back goals at 8:55 and 8:02, gaining a temporary advantage. Davenport's Jenna Gillis, assisted by Remacle, evened the score at 6:49. However, the Cavaliers regained the lead with a goal at 1:40, ending the quarter with Walsh ahead 3-2.

The Panthers saw early success in the second quarter with Addison Roe scoring at the 13:00 mark, assisted by Mika Kulynych, bringing the score to an even 3-3. Davenport's defense, led by goalkeeper Isabelle Bonillo, managed several key saves, including stopping a free position shot from Trinity Stowell with just three seconds remaining in the quarter. Despite these efforts, Walsh led 5-3 at the end of the opening half.

In the third quarter, the Cavaliers extended their lead with a series of goals. Despite a late goal by Roe with 50 seconds remaining, the Cavaliers maintained control, ending the quarter ahead 12-5.

In the fourth quarter, Davenport made a strong push to narrow the gap against the Cavaliers. The Panthers first goal came from Brianna Rodriguez on a free position at 8:11. Gillis then followed with a man-up goal, assisted by Roe, at 7:55. Bird added another goal for Davenport at 6:30, but Walsh answered with a goal from Dumas at 5:27. In the closing minutes, Rodriguez scored again at 0:54, and Roe netted a goal with just 6 seconds remaining, ending the quarter at 15-10 in favor of the Cavaliers.
