Late Comeback Falls Short as Panthers Drop Crosstown Showdown

ALLENDALE, Mich. — Davenport fell to Grand Valley State University 11–8 on Wednesday evening. Despite a strong fourth-quarter effort with four goals, Davenport could not overcome the deficit.

The first quarter began with the Lakers taking an early lead, going ahead 3-0. DU managed to respond late in the quarter when Gabby Basha scored at 1:18, reducing the deficit to two heading into the second quarter.

In the second quarter, the Lakers struck first with a goal at 8:18. Brianna Rodriguez responded for the Panthers, scoring at 6:11, and Kacie Stolarek followed with another goal for DU at 4:51. Despite Davenport's effort to close the gap, a goal from GVSU restored the Lakers' lead at 2:18. Both teams ended the quarter with two goals setting the score at 5-3 in favor of Grand Valley heading into the break.

Mika Kulynych scored the opening goal of the second half with an assist from Jenna Gillis at 11:32, narrowing the margin to one (5-4). However, the Lakers responded with a pair of goals and took a 7-4 advantage into the final quarter.

In the final quarter, the Lakers extended their lead with early goals, pushing the score to 10–4. However, DU went on a run at the end of the game. The Panthers responded with a goal from Rodriguez at 5:13 and continued their momentum with Jade Remacle scoring at 3:22, followed by Basha at 3:04. Elly Teliczan, assisted by Rodriguez, narrowed the gap further with a goal at 1:37.
