Koch Hits 300-Win Mark as Panthers Split

CALEDONIA, Mich. — Davenport (10-26, 6-7 GLIAC) split a Saturday doubleheader against Purdue Northwest (21-17, 7-7 GLIAC), taking game one 4–2 before dropping game two 5–3. Head coach Brad Koch earned his 300th career win in Game 1, marking the milestone in his first season with the Panthers.

Game 1

The Panthers wasted no time jumping on the Pride, plating four runs in the opening inning to set the tone early.

Kailyne Luna led off with a double before Alaina Schwanke reached on an error, moving Luna to third. Chloe Parker delivered a two-RBI double to right center, and Lexie McCarty followed with an RBI double of her own. Randi Robakowski capped the inning with an RBI single, giving Daveenport a 4–1 advantage after one.

PNW responded with a solo home run from Olivia Hernandez in the second to cut the deficit to 4–2, but that would be all the scoring for either side.

Hannah Tahaney controlled the game in the circle, tossing a complete-game effort. The sophomore allowed five hits and two runs while striking out seven and issuing no walks across seven innings to earn her fourth win of the season.

Offensively, Luna led the way, going 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored, while Parker drove in two runs. McCarty and Robakowski each added a hit.

Game 2

Game two remained a pitchers' duel early, with both teams held scoreless through four innings.

The Pride broke through in the fifth with a three-run inning, highlighted by a two-RBI single from Amanda DeBoer that Chloe Bruman nearly tracked down in left. Davenport answered in the bottom half, as McCarty scored on a Savanna Clark groundout to cut the deficit to 3–1.

The Panthers rallied in the sixth to even the score. Schwanke singled and later scored on Parker's triple before Darby Kramp brought Parker home with an RBI single to tie the game at 3–3.

PNW regained control in the seventh, using a two-RBI single from Kylie Madura to take a 5–3 lead, with obstruction called at the plate on the play. Davenport threatened in the bottom half behind a Madison Cole triple but was unable to push a run across.

Schwanke went six innings in the circle, allowing four earned runs on eight hits while striking out four. Kayla Widner worked the seventh in relief.

At the plate, Schwanke led Davenport with two hits, while Parker added a triple and RBI. McCarty doubled and scored, and Cole contributed a triple in the loss.
