Panthers Power Past GVSU for First Win Since 2019

CALEDONIA, Mich. — A long-awaited breakthrough and a power-packed finish highlighted Davenport's Sunday doubleheader at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex, as the Panthers dropped the opener 4–1 before erupting for a 9–5 win over Grand Valley State in Game 2.

The Panthers' Game 2 victory marked their first win over the Lakers since April 13, 2019, while the nine-run outburst set a program high against Grand Valley State. Davenport powered the split with four home runs in the evening.

Game 1

Game 1 turned into a tight, defensive battle, with Davenport unable to capitalize on its eight hits in a 4–1 loss.

The Lakers struck first in the second inning, using a pair of RBI singles to take a 2–0 lead.

Davenport responded in the fourth, as Chloe Parker singled and pinch runner Cali D'Amour came around to score on an RBI single from Lyla Reynolds, trimming the deficit to 2–1.

However, Grand Valley State added two unearned runs in the sixth following a dropped fly ball, extending the lead to 4–1 and creating separation late.

Hannah Tahaney went the distance in the circle, striking out five over seven innings while allowing just two earned runs. Despite the effort, she was tagged with the loss.

Offensively, Kailyne Luna and Parker each recorded two hits, while Reynolds delivered the Panthers' lone RBI in a pinch-hit appearance.

Game 2

Davenport's offense erupted behind four home runs, accounting for all nine runs on nine hits in the Game 2 victory.

The Panthers came out swinging, as Alaina Schwanke launched a two-run homer in the first inning to score Chloe Bruman. Parker followed with a solo shot later in the frame, giving DU an early 3–0 advantage.

After the Lakers responded with two unearned runs, Davenport answered in the third. Bruman singled and later scored on an RBI knock from Schwanke before Parker struck again with her second home run of the game, extending the lead to 6–2.

DU added insurance in the sixth inning when Kailyne Luna crushed a three-run homer, bringing home Bruman and Savanna Clark to push the lead to 9–4. Grand Valley State added one in the seventh, but Davenport held on for the 9–5 win.

Schwanke delivered a complete game in the circle, allowing three earned runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts and just one walk. She also added a home run and three RBIs at the plate.

Parker led the power surge with two home runs and three RBIs, while Luna added a three-run blast. Bruman scored three times and stole three bases to pace the offense.
