Panthers Have Strong Showing at NDA Nationals

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The Davenport University Dance Team returned to the national stage in Daytona Beach with a strong showing, earning runner-up finishes in both Division II Jazz and Division II Hip Hop at the National Dance Alliance Collegiate Nationals.

The Panthers opened their season with momentum at NDA Camp in Port Huron, where they earned a Silver Paid Bid to Nationals. Three athletes—Audrey Ramsey (junior), Alexis Crass (senior), and Reese Darson (junior)—were named All-Americans, highlighting the depth of talent across the roster.

"This season was truly one of the most enjoyable I've ever had as a coach," said head coach Courtney Houldsworth. "More than ever, I'm proud to coach this team. They brought passion, focus, and joy into every practice and performance. We couldn't have asked for a more incredible group to represent our program on the national stage, and we truly wouldn't change a thing about this season."

In Division II Jazz, Davenport delivered a powerful performance, scoring a 93.14 in prelims before improving to a 94.17 in finals to secure second place overall. The routine, choreographed by AB Choreo (Alanah Kaiser and Brittney Bennett), continued to showcase the program's technical precision and performance excellence. The Panthers finished just behind Valdosta State University, who claimed the national title with a 94.74.

In a major milestone for the program, Davenport also returned to Division II Hip Hop for the first time since 2019, delivering a statement performance and earning a program-record score. The Panthers posted a 92.28 in prelims and elevated to a 93.91 in finals to secure another runner-up finish. Once again, they finished behind Valdosta State University, who earned first place with a 95.14.

The Hip Hop routine, choreographed by Joey Velas, marked an exciting re-entry into the division. "Working with Joey was an incredible experience," the coaching staff shared. "He brought a fresh perspective and helped us make a strong statement in our return to Hip Hop. It was exciting to explore a new style while still staying true to who we are as a program."

This season was defined by growth and elevation, as the Panthers embraced a team-wide focus on never becoming complacent and continuously striving for more. With one of the most talented and dynamic rosters in program history, including eight rookies who made an immediate impact, the team prioritized development, unity, and consistency throughout the year.

Assistant coach Morgan Bernstein added, "Wrapping up my eighth season as part of this program, this was truly one of my favorites. I'm not only proud of what this team accomplished on the floor, but also of the people they are outside of practice. They are a special group, and I feel incredibly honored to have had the opportunity to coach them."

The Panthers also extend their gratitude to athletic trainer Jen McHugh, along with strength and nutrition coach Kendall Chapple and team manager Ellison Kadwell. Each played a vital role in the team's success this season, providing consistent support, care, and preparation that allowed the athletes to perform at their highest level all year long.

Davenport also recognizes its graduating seniors—Alexis Crass, Kelsey Patterson, and Rylee Nanzer—whose leadership and legacy will have a lasting impact on the program for years to come.

Finally, the team extends sincere thanks to their alumni, families, and friends for their unwavering support. With a season defined by resilience, elevation, and connection, the Panthers close the year proud of what they built together and even more excited for what lies ahead.
