Panthers Fall to UIndy on Wednesday Evening

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The Davenport University men's lacrosse team fell to the University of Indianapolis 21-9 at the DU Turf Field on Wednesday (April 8). Despite winning 20 faceoffs to Indianapolis' 13 and securing 34 ground balls, Davenport struggled with 27 turnovers and was unable to contain the opposition's offensive pressure. Indianapolis capitalized with 21 goals on 55 shots to secure the victory.

After falling behind 4-0 in the opening quarter, Charlie Fritz scored the first goal of the day for Davenport at 5:49, narrowing the deficit to 4-1. However, the Greyhounds continued their momentum with a pair of goals, closing the quarter with a 6-1 lead over the Panthers.

UIndy extended its lead in the second quarter with an impressive performance, scoring five goals to Davenport's one. The Panther's only goal of the quarter came from Jayden Ashley at 12:30, assisted by Luke Eichbauer

DU's offense found motion in the third quarter, scoring six goals in total. Davenport's first goal came from Luke Eichbauer, finding the net at 11:32, followed by Charlie Fritz scoring with an assist from Jayden Ashley at 10:52. Despite these efforts, the Greyhounds extended their lead with goals from Matt Pereira and Keegan Laughlin, pushing the score to 16-4. In the closing stages, Ashley delivered an impressive performance, scoring four goals, including one assisted by Logan Flaherty at 1:47, narrowing the deficit to 18-8 by the end of the quarter.

Davenport began the fourth quarter with a faceoff win by Flaherty, setting up an early goal from Eichbauer at the 12:55 mark. The Greyhounds responded quickly with goals at 10:01 and 9:04, shifting the momentum in their favor.
