Panthers Answer in Game Two to Split with Parkside

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Panthers traveled to Kenosha, Wisconsin on Wednesday afternoon for a GLIAC makeup doubleheader against Wisconsin-Parkside, falling 4–1 in game one before bouncing back for a 6–1 win in the second game.

Game 1
In game one of the day, Davenport's offense was limited to three hits. The Panthers struck first as Alaina Schwanke delivered an RBI double in the opening inning, scoring Randi Robakowski after she walked and stole second to give DU a brief 1–0 lead. Parkside answered in the bottom half of the inning to even the score at 1–1.

The fourth inning proved to be the difference, as Mia Johnson, the back-to-back GLIAC Player of the Year, hit a three-run home run to drive in Maddie Hernandez and Peyton Klikno, giving the Rangers a 4–1 lead. The Panthers were unable to respond, managing just two hits over the final six innings.

Parkside pitcher Casey Jo Vermett controlled the game in the circle, recording a season-high 16 strikeouts in a complete-game effort. The sophomore now has 119 strikeouts on the season, leading the GLIAC.

Hannah Tahaney took the loss, allowing four earned runs on five hits over four innings while striking out three. Kayla Widner provided a strong relief appearance, tossing two hitless innings with five strikeouts.

Schwanke recorded a hit and an RBI, while Darby Kramp added a pinch-hit single. Chloe Bruman drew a walk and stole a base while chipping in with a base hit.

Game 2
In game two, Davenport's offense found more consistency, totaling 10 hits while holding Parkside to one run.

The Panthers opened the scoring in the first inning when Kramp singled to right field, bringing home Kailyne Luna. UWP tied the game in the fourth on an RBI single from Reese Valha.

Davenport regained the lead in the fifth as Luna connected on a solo home run to right field — her second of the season — to make it 2–1.

The Panthers created separation in the sixth inning. Lyla Reynolds singled and Madison Cole doubled before Chloe Parker drove in two runs with a double to left center. Luna later added another run on a fielder's choice to extend the lead to 5–1. DU added an insurance run in the seventh on an RBI single from Lexie McCarty.

Schwanke went the distance in the circle, allowing one earned run on nine hits over seven innings while striking out three.

Luna led the offense with two hits, including a home run and two RBIs. True freshman Lyla Reynolds recorded three hits, marking her best collegiate outing, while Chloe Parker drove in two runs.
