Panthers Drop Regular-Season Finale, Prepare for Postseason

CALEDONIA, Mich.Davenport closed out the 2026 regular season on Saturday afternoon, falling to Ferris State in both games of its final GLIAC doubleheader at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex. The Panthers dropped a back-and-forth 8-6 battle in Game 1 before falling 12-2 in five innings in Game 2.

Davenport finished the regular season at 15-35 overall and 11-17 in GLIAC play, while Ferris State improved to 33-18 overall and 19-7 in conference action.

Game One
Davenport battled throughout the opener, collecting 10 hits and answering multiple Ferris State scoring pushes before the Bulldogs used a late sixth-inning surge to take control.

Ferris State struck first on a solo home run from Alexis Kozlowski in the opening inning, but the Panthers responded in the second. Lexie McCarty drew a walk and later came around to score on an RBI single from Madison Cole, tying the game at 1-1.
Davenport moved in front in the third as Sydney Drenth singled and later scored on an RBI base hit from Kailyne Luna. Luna also came around to score on a wild pitch, giving the Panthers a 3-1 advantage.

After Ferris State trimmed the deficit, Davenport added another run in the fifth when Luna reached on an error and scored on an RBI single from Chloe Parker to make it 4-3.

The Bulldogs shifted the game in the sixth, using a two-RBI double from Kozlowski and a two-run home run from Ava Gardner to jump ahead 7-4. Davenport answered in the bottom half as Luna delivered a two-RBI double to cut the margin to 7-6, but Ferris State added an insurance run in the seventh to secure the opener.

Luna led the Panthers with two hits, including a double, while driving in three runs. Cole finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Drenth added two hits, a walk and two runs scored.

Game Two
Davenport opened Game 2 with early pressure as Luna doubled down the left-field line in the first inning, but the Panthers were unable to bring her around.

Cole put Davenport on the board in the second with a solo inside the park home run, giving the Panthers an early 1-0 lead. Ferris State answered with an unearned run in the bottom half before breaking the game open in the third behind a grand slam from Emma Gillard.

The Bulldogs continued to build separation with a five-run fourth inning. Davenport added its second run in the frame when Darby Kramp doubled to bring home Ally Prasnjak, but Ferris State remained in control the rest of the way.

Cole led the Panthers with her solo home run, while Kramp added a double and an RBI. Luna reached base twice, finishing with a double and a walk.

Up Next
Davenport secured a spot in the GLIAC Tournament, which begins this Thursday in Crown Point, Indiana. The Panthers will now turn their attention to postseason play as they prepare for their opening-round matchup.
