CROWN POINT, Ind. — Davenport University saw its 2026 season come to a close Saturday afternoon at the Crown Point Sportsplex, falling 7-6 to Purdue Northwest in a GLIAC Tournament elimination game. Entering the day, only four teams remained in the GLIAC Tournament field: Saginaw Valley State, Ferris State, Purdue Northwest and the Panthers.
The Panthers held a 6-2 lead entering the bottom of the seventh before the Pride rallied for five runs to walk it off and advance.
Davenport struck first in the opening inning as
Kailyne Luna drew a walk, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt from
Chloe Bruman and a single from
Chloe Parker, then scored on a sacrifice fly from
Ally Prasnjak.
The Panthers extended their lead in the second behind a
Madison Cole single, an RBI base hit from
Savanna Clark and a run-scoring triple from Luna to make it 3-0.
Davenport continued to build momentum in the third. Parker opened the frame with a double before
Lexie McCarty added a double of her own, putting runners in scoring position. Cole followed with an RBI single, and McCarty later stole home to push the Panthers ahead 5-0.
PNW broke through with two runs in the sixth, but Davenport answered in the seventh as Prasnjak walked, moved up on a sacrifice bunt and came around to score on Cole's RBI single, giving the Panthers a 6-2 advantage.
The Pride responded in the bottom half, plating five runs to complete the comeback and end Davenport's tournament run.
Cole led the Panthers at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while McCarty added two hits, a double and a run scored. Parker also collected two hits, including a double, while Luna reached base three times with a triple, two walks and two runs scored.
Hannah Tahaney delivered six strong innings in the circle, striking out four while allowing five runs on six hits.
Alaina Schwanke was charged with the loss after entering in relief during a difficult late-game situation.
Davenport ends the 2026 season at 17-38 overall. The game also marked the final contest for seniors Luna, Prasnjak,
Kylie Hegland,
Ashley Sturgill,
Darby Kramp and
Alex Rendon.
