KIRKSVILLE, Mo. — The Davenport University women's soccer team opened its 2026 season with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Truman State on Thursday at Stokes Stadium. The Panthers controlled much of the offensive pressure throughout the match, outshooting the Bulldogs 20-12 and placing 12 shots on goal.

Davenport came out aggressive from the opening whistle, creating several early opportunities in the attacking third. Jada Spillers recorded the first shot of the match just over two minutes into the contest before Autumn Wakefield tested Truman State goalkeeper Siman Loethen moments later. Sofia Capoccia also helped generate chances as the Panthers continued to apply pressure.

Despite the early pressure from DU, neither team was able to find the back of the net in the opening half. The Panthers continued to create opportunities, including attempts from Audrey Muterspaugh and Madison Fant, but the Truman State defense held firm to keep the match scoreless heading into halftime.

The Bulldogs broke through in the second half to take a 1-0 lead, putting Davenport in search of an equalizer. DU continued to battle and kept the pressure on as the match moved into the final minutes.

The breakthrough finally came in the 79th minute when freshman Reegan Dunn scored the first goal of her collegiate career at the 78:26 mark. Assisted by Muterspaugh, Dunn found the back of the net on her lone shot on goal to pull the Panthers even at 1-1.

Davenport continued to push for a late winner but was unable to find a second goal before the final whistle, as the two teams settled for the season-opening draw.

Elizabeth Wolter anchored the Panthers between the posts, making two saves while allowing one goal on 12 shots faced. Capoccia recorded three shots, including one on goal, while Muterspaugh finished with two shots on target as Davenport generated 20 total attempts in the contest.

Thursday's match also marked the first collegiate minutes for Laney Carlson, Tatum Borton, Muterspaugh, Maddison Foster, Ana Zmuda, Abigail Waldron and Alyson Peterson.

The Panthers begin the season at 0-0-1 and will return to action Saturday, Aug. 29, when Davenport travels to Quincy, Ill., to take on Quincy. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
