GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Davenport picked up its first win of the season on Saturday, defeating Aquinas 1-0 at home. Isiah Meyer scored the game-winning goal in the first half, while the Panthers' defense held the Saints scoreless throughout the match.

Meyer gave Davenport the lead in the 18th minute, scoring at 17:14 off an assist from Drew Matyunas. The Saints put pressure on the Panthers late in the first half, earning five corner kicks, but Beau Hudd made a save in the 35th minute to keep Aquinas off the board. Davenport took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

The Panthers continued to hold off the Saints in the second half. Matyunas took over in goal for the second half and made four saves, including stops in the 82nd and 89th minutes, to preserve the shutout. Davenport also had a few chances of its own late, with back-to-back corner kicks from Archie Oliver setting up shots from Jackson Curtis and Charlie Davis.

Matyunas finished with four saves in 53:07 of action, while Hudd recorded one save in 36:53. Both goalkeepers finished the match without allowing a goal.

The win moves Davenport to 1-2-2 overall, while Aquinas falls to 2-3-0.

Davenport will return to action Wednesday, Sept. 16, opening conference play against Saginaw Valley State at 1 p.m. in University Center, Mich.
