UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. — Davenport dropped its GLIAC opener to Saginaw Valley State, 6-0, on Wednesday afternoon. The Panthers finished with six shots, including two on goal, while the Cardinals recorded 17 shots and 11 on frame.

Nathan Hikspoors played all 90 minutes in goal for Davenport and made five saves. Off the bench, Lance Toutanji and Isiah Meyer each recorded a shot on goal.

Saginaw Valley State scored four times in the opening half, with Jo Bédard and Matty Telfer each finding the back of the net twice. Bédard also added an assist. Davenport picked up four shots in the first half, including two in the final six minutes, but entered halftime trailing 4-0.

The Cardinals added two more goals in the second half, including a penalty kick from Telfer and a late goal from Sora Kozaki at 85:43. Davenport put both of its second-half shots on target, with Meyer and Toutanji each forcing a save. Hikspoors made three saves in the second half.

Davenport falls to 1-3-2 overall and 0-1-0 in GLIAC play, while Saginaw Valley State improves to 3-0-2 overall and 1-0-0 in conference action.

The Panthers return home Sunday, Sept. 20, for their first home game of the season, hosting Northern Michigan at 11 a.m. in Caledonia, Michigan.
