Davenport Set for Upper Peninsula Road Swing

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport University women's volleyball team continues GLIAC play with a trip to Michigan's Upper Peninsula to face Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech. The Panthers enter their third and fourth conference matches with an 8-1 overall record and a 2-0 mark in conference play as they look to build on their strong start.

Senior Abby Alan leads Davenport with 97 kills and a GLIAC-best 18 service aces, while redshirt junior Jaide Wirth has contributed 86 kills, including 13 in last weekend's 3-0 sweep of Purdue Northwest. Wirth and Amelia Werner both rank among the conference's top 10 in hitting percentage, with Wirth hitting .330 and Werner close behind at .325.

Seven Panthers have appeared in all 35 sets this season: Wirth, Keirra Dommer, Hayley Carr, Werner, Mariya Montgomery, Madison Berry and Julia Frederick. Dommer, a true freshman, has directed the offense with a team-high 219 assists. Defensively, Carr leads the Panthers with 142 digs, while Montgomery ranks fourth in the GLIAC with a team-best 32 total blocks, including nine solo blocks and 23 block assists.

Northern Michigan // Sept. 18 at 6 p.m.

About the Wildcats
  • Northern Michigan enters the weekend with a 4-6 overall record and a 1-1 mark in GLIAC play. The Wildcats defeated Purdue Northwest in four sets before falling to Roosevelt in four sets.
  • Sophomore Kaylie McIntosh leads the Wildcats with 105 kills through 35 sets. She matched her career high with 19 kills against Cal State East Bay on Sept. 3, one of three early-season performances with at least 18 kills. McIntosh also recorded 18 kills against Tiffin on Aug. 29 and Colorado School of Mines on Sept. 4. The outside hitter has added 12 blocks while hitting .142 on 330 attacks.
  • Senior Allie Barlow has recorded a team-high 377 assists, ranking third in the GLIAC, while averaging 9.92 assists per set.
  • Sophomore middle blocker Larsen Bonnstetter leads Northern Michigan with 24 total blocks. She registered a season-high six blocks against Tiffin on Aug. 29.
  • Senior Liesel Haugen anchors the Wildcats' defense with a team-high 157 digs.
  • Northern Michigan leads the all-time series against Davenport, 12-5. The teams split their two meetings last season, with the Panthers sweeping the Wildcats at home on Sept. 19 before falling in four sets on the road on Nov. 8.
  • Head coach Mike Lozier is in his 10th season leading the Northern Michigan volleyball program.

About the Huskies
  • Michigan Tech enters the weekend with a 5-5 overall record and a 1-1 mark in GLIAC play. The Huskies defeated Saginaw Valley State in four sets after falling to Davenport in a five-set thriller on Sept. 11. Saturday's match will mark the teams' second meeting of the season.
  • Senior Rachel Zurek leads the Huskies and the GLIAC with 183 kills, averaging 4.26 per set. She has posted a .268 hitting percentage on 452 total attacks.
  • Sophomore Madelynn Kreider leads the GLIAC with 428 assists. Her average of 9.95 assists per set ranks second in the conference.
  • Senior middle blocker Tricia Kennedy leads Michigan Tech with 31 total blocks, including 12 solo blocks and 19 block assists.
  • Junior Keeley Nellis has collected a team-high 179 digs, averaging 4.16 per set. She ranks fifth in the GLIAC in digs per set.
  • Michigan Tech holds a 9-6 advantage in the all-time series against Davenport. The Panthers won the most recent meeting in five sets on Sept. 11.
  • Head coach Cindy Pindral is in her second season leading the Michigan Tech volleyball program.
