Panthers Earn 1-1 Draw Against Northern Michigan

CALEDONIA, Mich. — Davenport battled Northern Michigan to a 1-1 draw Sunday in its first home match of the season.

Northern Michigan controlled much of the first half, outshooting Davenport 6-2 and putting four shots on goal. Nathan Hikspoors made three saves to keep the Wildcats off the scoreboard early.

Dugan Black gave Davenport a spark late in the first half, putting the Panthers on the board with a goal at 44:08 off an assist from Archie Oliver. Black finished with three shots, all on target, as Davenport took a 1-1 tie into halftime.

The Wildcats continued to pressure in the second half, holding a 6-2 advantage in shots and earning nine corner kicks compared to two for Davenport. Hikspoors made one more save in the second half, while the Panthers' defense kept Northern Michigan off the scoreboard to secure the draw.

Hikspoors played all 90 minutes and finished with four saves. Oliver recorded the assist for his lone point of the match.

Davenport moves to 1-3-3 overall and 0-1-1 in conference play, while Northern Michigan is now 4-2-1 overall and 1-0-1 in conference play.

The Panthers return to action Friday, Sept. 25, traveling to Kenosha, Wisconsin, to face Parkside at 1 p.m.
