CALEDONIA, Mich. — Davenport suffered its first loss of the season Friday, falling 2-0 to Saginaw Valley State. The Panthers found more offensive pressure after halftime, taking eight of their 10 shots in the second half, but were unable to find the back of the net. Davenport finished with four shots on goal, while the Cardinals had 11.

Elizabeth Wolter turned in another strong performance in net with eight saves, recording four in each half. Autumn Wakefield led Davenport with two shots, including one on target, and Audrey Muterspaugh added two shots of her own.

The Panthers weathered early pressure as Wolter made two saves and the defense came up with a team save to keep the match scoreless through the opening 19 minutes. Davenport responded with a shot on goal from Wakefield, a corner kick, and an attempt from Sofia Capoccia before SVSU broke the deadlock at 22:53 on a goal by Jaidyn Veldhouse. Wolter added two more saves before the break as Davenport trailed 1-0 at halftime.

Saginaw Valley doubled its lead just over three minutes into the second half when Abby Ellis scored at 48:17. Davenport continued to press, highlighted by Tatum Borton striking the right post and saved attempts from Isabella Workman, Madison Fant, and Natalie Vance. The Panthers also earned four corner kicks in a three-minute stretch late in the match, but couldn't find a late goal.

Davenport moves to 4-1-2 overall and 2-1-0 in GLIAC play, while Saginaw Valley improves to 5-2-0 overall and 3-0-0 in conference.

The Panthers travel to Detroit on Sunday, Sept. 20, for a 1 p.m. matchup with Wayne State.
