LAKE PLACID, N.Y. - The third and final game of the ACHA Fall Faceoff proved to be just as entertaining for Davenport, but the Panthers could not complete a major comeback in a 6-5 loss to No. 16 Missouri State at Herb Brooks Arena on Sunday morning.

The Panthers got on the board first just 48 seconds into the game as Matt Carlson scored his first of the season. DU won a faceoff in their offensive zone and Carlson took the puck from behind the goal line and fired it short-sided off the goaltender for a sweet goal. The Ice Bears then took control in the second period with four straight goals to take a 4-1 lead. Anthony Lisanti scored on the power play at 25 seconds followed by even strength goals by Henry Vest and a pair by Coby Weber.

The Panthers ended the second period down 4-2 thanks to Gabe Olenzuk scoring his first of the season at 18:39 with an assist by Dylan Jouppi. Jouppi stole the puck at the blue line and fed it to Olenzuk who snapped a shot to the left side of the net. The Ice Bears regained a 5-2 lead just 1:58 into the third period on a goal by Denis Valenta. Davenport grinded over the next 10 minutes to tie the game at 5-5. Jack Kelly scored unassisted at 5:44. Anthony Ott notched his second goal of the season at 6:40 with Jouppi getting his second assist of the game and fifth of the season. Ott raced over the blue line and fired a low shot that was initally slowed down, but the puck leaked under the goaltender and slid just across the goal line.

The Panthers would score the equalizer at 11:15 of the period as Jouppi continued his hot play on the power play with his second goal of the season from Jake Alton. Jouppi took a faceoff win and skated up between the circles for a slap shot into the top right corner. Missouri State found a way to calm down and would get the winning goal at 18:39 from Carsen Gause with assists from Vest and Valenta. Gause got a drop pass entering the zone and walked into a wrist shot into the top right corner.

Missouri State finished with 32 shots on goal including 17 in their four-goal second period. Davenport would fire 30 shots on goal including 14 in the third period. DU went 1-for-6 on the power play and had twice as many chances as the Ice Bears who finished 1-for-3. Kyler Lowden recorded 26 saves for the Panthers, while Dalton Elliott made 25 saves for the Ice Bears. Davenport returns to Michigan next week as they will face John Carroll on Friday at 8:35 PM in their home opener. JCU is 2-0 after a weekend sweep over Villanova at home.
