Biography

2018 (Sr.): Granted a medical red-shirt.

Prior to DU: Attended Eastern Michigan University from 2014-17...posted a 6.44 ERA in 152.1 innings for the Eagles in his career.

2017 (Jr.): Posted a 4.99 ERA in 61.1 innings and made 13 starts...went 4-3 on the mound with one complete game...struck out 45 batters...got a win over Missouri (Feb. 17) going five innings and allowed seven hits with four strikeouts...earned Mid-American Conference Pitcher of the Week after Missouri outing...pitched all nine innings against Butler (Apr. 2) in 4-0 shutout and allowed just two hits with six strikeouts...fanned a season-high 10 batters in seven innings in a 4-0 win over Buffalo (Apr. 30).

2016 (Soph.): Appeared in 14 games on the mound, starting seven times, the fourth-most on the team…pitched to a 4.53 ERA in 49.2 innings, striking out 29 batters…five of his seven starts came against “Power 5” opponents…earned a win against Notre Dame (Apr. 27), after going 5.2 scoreless innings…struck out a career-high five batters against Purdue (Apr. 12)…did not allow an earned run in his start against Oakland (May 10), going 5.1 innings and striking out four.

2015 (Fr.): Made 14 appearances, including five starts on the hill in his first season donning the Green and White...struck out 16 batters in 41.1 innings pitched...picked up his first collegiate victory against Wayne State (Mar. 25)...tossed a scoreless 4.2 innings of relief, recording a pair of strikeouts against Ball State (Apr. 17)...pitched a season-high five innings on four different occasions throughout the season.

High School: Prepped at Canton HS under coach Mark Blomshield...named All-Kensington Lakes Activities Association Pitcher of the Year, along with collecting all-conference honors as a senior...lettered in baseball three years and was promoted to team captain during his senior season...secured his spot on the honor roll all four years of high school...member of National Honor Society.

Personal: Son of Dan and Mary Mattson...majoring in finance...grandson of former Major League Baseball pitcher Al Cicotte (New York Yankees, 1956) and great-grandson of Eddie Cicotte (Chicago White Sox, 1919)...born January 23.
