Jimmy Hill

Jimmy Hill returns as wide receiver coach and passing game coordinator for his third season in 2024. Jimmy will also be working with the team's running backs for the first time in 2024. During the 2023 season, Hill guided a group of wide receivers that caught 159 passes for 2,037 yards and 15 touchdowns. Preston Smith was named First Team All-GLIAC having caught 34 passes for 498 yards and a team-high six touchdowns. In the pass game, Jason Whittaker earned Second Team All-GLIAC plaudits for the second straight season having thrown for 1,812 yards and 14 touchdowns.

In Hill’s first year as coach here at Davenport, he coached three All-GLIAC receivers in Sy Barnett (first team), Roy Livingstone and Preston Smith (both second team).

Davenport was the top passing team in the GLIAC and Hill’s wide receiving core finished in the top 20 in Division II in TD receptions (27). In addition, those three top wideouts all finished in the top 10 in the GLIAC in receiving touchdowns.

Before coaching at Davenport, Hill was at Fleming Island High School in Florida where he served as quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator. Originally from Detroit, Mich., Jimmy was a graduate of Detroit Mumford High School. He received his bachelor's degree in communications from Wayne State University and his Master's degree in secondary education from the University of Phoenix.

He brings 25 years of coaching experience and a wealth of relationships in the metro Detroit and north Florida area. Hill played collegiately at Wayne State where he was voted team and offensive MVP. He finished as the all-time single-season TD receptions leader, made First Team All-Region and was an Academic All-American.

In 2015, coach Hill was named Region 15 Coach of the Year by the MHSAA Coaches Association. That year he also led Detroit Northwestern to the B division city championship and its only undefeated regular season in school history, which led to him being awarded the Spirit of Detroit award by Detroit’s City council.

Jimmy is married to Dana Hill, and they have four children: Amoni, Jaden, Keysean and Jourdan.
