Betcher is a native of Schoolcraft, Michigan and graduated from Schoolcraft High School in 2009. He played for the state runner-up squad during his senior year. He earned his associate's degree from Kalamazoo Valley Community College in 2014 in general studies. He later graduated from Davenport in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in sports management. His two-year record as a student-athlete was 56-14 with one trip to the NAIA Elite Eight.
Coach Paddock commented, "Mike is a fantastic human being. It gives me a great deal of satisfaction knowing our kids are surrounded and mentored by the staff we've been fortunate enough to assemble, beginning with Mike. Mike has been a winner at all levels of his athletic career and life in general. I know his successes as a high school and college student-athlete will rub off onto our kids. Mike will be responsible for working with our varsity post players and will be the Head JV Coach. I am incredibly thankful to have Mike as an assistant coach and look forward to working with him as one of my assistants moving forward."
