Deena Vroegindewey

Deena (VanAssen) Vroegindewey starts her first season on the bench for the Davenport women's volleyball program. She graduated from Hope College in 2007 with a double major in Business Management and Psychology. Deena was a four-year varsity player for the Flying Dutch and was a co-captain and First Team All-MIAA.

She holds the school record for most digs in a match with 37 against Calvin on Oct. 30, 2006. She also holds single-season record with 6.14 digs per set in 2006.

Vroegindewey started her coaching career at her high school alma mater, Jenison, for her first five years. She worked with the junior high team as well as assistant coach of varsity. In 2007, she assisted the team in winning the state championship.

In 2008, Vroegindewey took over as Byron Center High School Varsity Volleyball Coach. She led the team to two district titles, two conference titles and also was region coach of the year in 2014. The team was also an eight-time, all-academic honoree.  

Deena is married to Jeff Vroegindewey and the couple have three kids -- Trace (6), Weston (5) and Breck (2). She is also a realtor at Weichert Realtors Platinum Group where she has been for 11 years.
