Desirae Hemmes

Desirae is in her fourth season as the Assistant Coach for the volleyball program. Hemmes comes to Davenport after a very successful coaching career at nearby East Kentwood High School.

In 2014, she helped coach Davenport to their first NAIA National Tournament victory over Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) and their first berth to the NAIA Championship - Final Site in Sioux City, Iowa. Hemmes helped Davenport to 36-9 record and their first WHAC regular season and tournament championship in school history.

Hemmes helped lead the 2013 volleyball squad to a 31-10 overall record on the season including a 10-1 record in WHAC games. She also helped the team to their first ever ranking in the NAIA Top-25 and beat five ranked opponents on the season.

Hemmes spent six years on the East Kentwood sideline, four as an assistant and two as the head coach.  During her time as the assistant coach, Hemmes helped the Falcons to a pair of OK-Red championships.  Taking over as the head coach in 2011, Hemmes posted a 94-41 record in two seasons which included a trip to the Class A Final Four in her first season. 

Prior to her coaching at East Kentwood, Hemmes also served as head coach for Wayland High School for one year and was an Assistant Coach at Cornerstone University for two seasons. Hemmes also has a strong background in club volleyball as she has spent the past eight seasons working with FaR Out Volleyball Club.  

Hemmes, a 2005 graduate of Cornerstone University, majored in Physical Education (K-12) and minored in Psychology.  She is currently employed as a Middle School PE/Health teacher in Kentwood Public Schools.
