Grand Rapids, Mich. - After last night's come from behind 5-set victory over Concordia, the Panthers volleyball team carried the momentum into today's Golden Eagle Invite. DU posted two wins on Friday afternoon to improve to 9-15 on the season with two more matches on Saturday to play.
The tournament opened up with Davenport taking on Spring Arbor for the third time this season and after splitting the first two meetings, the Panthers came out and took the season series with a 3-set sweep (25-21, 25-17, 25-21).
The Panthers were led in the match by Megan Vanderhyde with 9 kills and Kayla Vandermolen who posted 25 assists.
In the second match, Davenport jumped out to an early lead against Daemen (NY) and held on for a tough 5-set victory. DU won the first set 25-17 before dropping set two 22-25. The Panthers would rally to go up two sets to one with a 25-20 victory but the visitors forced a decided set with a come from behind 25-22 victory in set four. After going through a five-set match the night before, Davenport was ready and took the match with a 15-13 victory in the final set.
Vanderhyde once again led the offense with 18 kills and Courtney DePriest set a new school record for digs in a match with 42. DU will now play Trinity Christian and Illinois Tech on Saturday.
