Ada, Mich. - Playing in their first ever home game, the women's lacrosse team nearly escaped with a victory over cross-town foe Grand Valley State. Unfortunately, the Panthers were unable to hold onto the lead late in the game and fell 7-5 to the Lakers.
Grand Valley State got off to a quick 2-0 start less than 8:00 into the game but Davenport responded with two straight goals from Daniella Bugli and Francesca Cedillo. The Lakers would come right back before halftime and scored to take a 3-2 into the break.
DU then opened the second half with three of the first four goals to take their first lead of the game at 5-4 with two more goals from Bugli and another from Kendra Stieg. A tired Panthers squad hurt down the stretch as the Lakers were able to rattle off three straight goals to end the game and defeat DU 7-5.
The loss drops DU to 0-2 on the season as they will travel to Muncie, IN to take on Ball State this weekend. They will host two more games next week at Forest Hills Eastern High School.
