Upland, Ind. - The women's volleyball team had not played a match in eight days and the rust showed on Friday afternoon at the Taylor Tournament in Upland, IN. Davenport fell in three sets in each match to fall to 5-11 on the season.

DU entered the tournament after a tough two match stretch last week against D2 powers Hillsdale and GVSU, but got off to a slow start in both matches on Friday as they fell to the host Trojans and Spring Arbor University.

Taylor used a solid attack and many mistakes from the young Panthers squad to soundly defeat DU in three sets, 25-13, 25-22 and 25-21. DU posted just a .102 hitting percentage as the Trojans pounded 40 kills in the three sets. Leading the way offensively for the Panthers was freshman Megan Vanderhyde (Sparta, MI) who posted 12 kills for the match.

In the second match, DU found themselves lined up against the Cougars from Spring Arbor, a team they defeated less than two weeks ago at the Madonna Tournament. Unfortunately the tides were turned in the second meeting at SAU rolled to a 25-19, 25-23, 25-19 sweep. Freshman Kailey Schultz (Grand Haven, MI) was outstanding for DU as she accounted for 15 of the Panthers' 42 kills in the match while hitting at a .333 clip. Sophomore Kayla Vandermolen (Cedar Springs, MI) dished out 35 assists while freshman Courtney DePriest (Grand Rapids, MI) led the defense with 17 digs.

DU will return to the court on Saturday when they play Walsh University and Trinity International. It will be the second meeting of the season with each team as DU was defeated by Walsh at Cornerstone and earned a win over TIU at Dearborn earlier this year.
