Oct. 24, 2009

Box Score

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - DU got five goals in the final two periods to lift them to a 6-4 win over Eastern Michigan. Marc Thompson scored two more goals after three on Friday night to help the Panthers sweep EMU and improve to 8-3 on the year.

The scoring was few and far between in the opening period as the game was knotted at one goal each as DU got a goal from Sean McWhorter (Lansing, Mich.) on assists from Jesse Carter (Amherstburg, Mich.) and Ben Dykstra (Kentwood, Mich.).

The offense heated up in the second half as the Panthers opened up a 2-1 lead in the opening minute when Marc Thompson (Traverse City, Mich.) scored from Brit Ouellette (Windsor, Ontario) and Jeff Slusser (Kentwood, Mich.).

After EMU scored on a rare penalty shot, DU came right back with two goals from CJ Pobur (Commerce Twp, Mich.) and Brandon Davis (Hartland, Mich.) to take a 4-2 lead. EMU scored late in the 2nd period to make it a one goal game heading into the third.

Davenport came out much more focused in the final period and scored two goals compared to just one from their opponent as the game winner came from Jesse Carter on assists from McWhorter and Dykstra.

Thompson then added his second goal of the game and 5th of the weekend at the 7:47 mark to finish the scoring for the Panthers.

Jacob Schira (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) got the win in net as he helped the Panthers sweep the Eagles for the second straight year.

DU is now 8-3 on the year and will open up defense of their 4-straight GMHL titles when they travel to Ferris State on Thursday for a 9:00 PM game in Big Rapids.
