8-4 Win Completes Weekend Sweep of Miami (OH)

Nov. 14, 2009

Box Score

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Friday night's big third period carried into Saturday's first period as the Panthers jumped on the RedHawks early in route to an 8-4 GMHL win and a weekend sweep. DU is now 11-6 on the year and 3-1 in league action.

After scoring three times in the final 20 minutes in Friday's 5-2 win, Davenport wasted no time in scoring their next three goals as they put up back-to-back-to-back goals in the first three minutes of play on Saturday.

The defense then did let up a little that allowed Miami to crawl back in as the Panthers took a 5-3 lead into the first intermission. The two teams then traded goals in the second period to keep the game at a two-goal margin.

Scoring for the Panthers in the first two periods were Brit Ouellette (Windsor, Ontario) and Marc Thompson (Traverse City, Mich.) who posted two each as well as Adam Thomas (Kentwood, Mich.) and Bobby Collar (Brighton, Mich.).

Looking for the sweep, the Panthers came out strong again in the final period and scored two unanswered goals for the 8-4 win. Jonathon Frank (Wallingford, Conn.) and Jesse Carter (Amherstburg, Ontario) scored the final two goals of the game.

Davenport is now 11-6 on the year and 3-1 in league play as they will travel to East Lansing on Friday for a very important game with the Spartans. They will then host archrival Liberty University on Sunday.
