GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Head Coach Burt Paddock would like to announce the signing of Clio product Luke Sorenson. The 6'10 center signed a national letter of intent to further pursue his education and basketball career at Davenport University beginning in the fall of 2010.
Luke Sorenson of Clio, MI becomes the second signee for Davenport University as the Panthers are off to a 4-0 start in the 2009-2010 campaign. As a junior last season at Clio, Sorenson was named 2nd Team All-Conference and finished the year with 108 blocks which is the 16th highest total in MHSAA history.
Luke posted three triple doubles during his junior year and had one game in which he swatted away 13 blocks which if the 5th highest ever recorded for a high school in the state of Michigan.
Head Coach Burt Paddock is very excited to have Sorenson join his program and stated "Luke is a very unique addition for this level of basketball. We are extremely fortunate to add a high school player that is nearing 7'0 tall who is able to run the floor, has good hands and shoots it to 17-18'.
In time, we are hoping that he will possess the skills to not only play around the basket but also step out and play some power forward here at DU."
Luke prepped under the guidance of head coach Jim VanitVelt at Clio and spent his AAU playing days for the Michigan Roadrunners under the direction of Bill Sams.
"From the time Luke stepped on campus we felt it was going to be a perfect fit, added Paddock. From his experience with our academic department to his time with our team and staff, it seemed as though he was the right player. We believe with added strength, he will be a valuable asset to our team during his time here at DU."
Davenport University will be in action this weekend at the Calvin College Tournament in Grand Rapids, The Panthers will take on Lake Forest College of Illinois in the semifinals on Friday at 5:30 with the winner advancing to play the Grace Bible/Calvin winner on Saturday at 3:00 PM.
