Dec. 12, 2009

Box Score

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Playing their last series before Christmas Break started on a high note as the Panthers returned to GMHL play with a 6-4 win over Ohio State. DU is now 14-9 on the year and 5-1-0 in league action.

Ohio State came into the game ranked #1 in the Southeast Region while the Panthers were #2 in the Central in the latest ACHA D2 poll.

DU jumped out fast early with four goals in the opening period as they led the Buckeyes 4-2. The Panthers got goals from Adam Thomas (Kentwood, Mich.) with two goals while Bobby Collar (Brighton, Mich.) and CJ Pobur (Commerce Twp, Mich.) each scored once.

The offense continued to excel in the second period as Davenport increased the lead to four goals after 40 minutes of play with Jeff Slusser (Kentwood, Mich.) and Brit Ouellette (Windsor, Ontario) each scoring in front of goaltender Cam Thomas (Kentwood, Mich.).

The level of play dropped dramatically in the closing period as DU Head Coach Paul Lowden stated after the game, "We allowed OSU back in the game in the third period and that is just unacceptable. We need to play 60 minutes of hockey tonight."

DU allowed two unanswered goals in the 3rd period to bring the final score to 6-4 and Lowden expressed his feelings towards the team, "Personally I felt we were inconsistent in our efforts and performance in the first game of the series. We need to be better defensively and we need to be more aggressive offensively in today's game."

The Buckeyes and Panthers will meet tonight at 7:00 PM at Patterson Ice Center. It will be the annual "Ugly Sweater" and "Duster Weekend" game where all of our players and coaches will wear ugly sweaters and a moustache. All the sweaters will be donated to charity and the team is collecting Toys for children in need. It is alot of fun and good charity event for the DU Hockey Panthers.
