INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Lonnie Fairfax hit his first career 3-pointer and Lorenzo Ecford scored 19 points and pulled down 9 rebounds to lead DU to a 80-64 win over Culver Stockton. The win lifts the Panthers to 11-4 on the year.
After struggling on Friday night in a 74-53 loss to Brescia University, the Panthers rebounded quickly today as they jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead forcing the Wildcats into a timeout.
Culver-Stockton would come back to tie the game but the Panthers never allowed their opponent to take the lead for the remainder of the game and used a big push late in the first half to lead 43-23.
Lonnie Fairfax (Livonia, Mich.) was outstanding in the first 20 minutes as he came off the bench to score 6 points while pulling down 5 rebounds and dishing out 4 assists. Lorenzo Ecford (Chicago, Ill.) also was solid as the junior scored 12 of his game high 19 in the first half.
Opening the second half, the intensity stayed the same and after a quick bucket by the Wildcats, DU rattled off four in a row to push the lead to 22 and would eventually lead by as many as 27.
Midway through the second half, Lonnie Fairfax came off a screen and hit his first ever shot from long range which excited both the bench and fans for Davenport.
DU was able to hold the leading scorer for Culver Stockton to just 8 points as he made only one shot from the field and the Panthers held the Wildcats to under 40% shooting.
DU will take to the floor next at the Hope College (Russ Devette Holiday Classic) next week where they will take on Grace Bible for the 3rd time this season.
