CLERMONT, Fla. - Davenport University came away with two wins today against Alma College, 8-3, and Concordia College (MN), 6-5. DU is now 4-3 on the year with two more games on Saturday against Concordia (MN) and Salem International University.
In the first game the Panthers took on fellow Michigan team, Alma College. Jumping out early DU scored three runs in the first three innings and added five more in the last few innings to secure the victory.
Kassi Johnson had the complete game win, giving up seven hits and three runs. Morgan Greenfield led the Panthers with two hits and two RBI's, while Cora Miller, Ali Dawson, Kristin Miedema, Johnson, and Nikki Aldrich accounted for the rest of the Panthers hits.
In game two Ali Dawson took the mound for DU and shut down Concordia's offense for the first three innings. Davenport got ahead early again with two runs in the first inning and one more in the third and fourth.
Concordia fought back in the fourth and fifth innings scoring five runs to bring the score to 6-5 going into the last two innings. Kassi Johnson then came in to pitch and was able to hold the Panther lead and earn her first save with a 6-5 victory.
Cora Miller went 3-4 in the second game with two singles and a double. Ali Dawson and Kristin Miedema both had two hits while Katie Cornman and Haley Stehouwer each added one.
With five games left to play in their spring trip to Clermont, Fla. DU will have tomorrow off before returning to action on Saturday to take on Concorida (MN) once again at 9:30am, and Salem International at 11:30am. Both games can be heard on www.michigansportsradio.com.
