FORT WAYNE, Ind. - A half-court buzzer beater from the #25 Warriors handed #6 Davenport their first loss today 62-59.  The Panthers, playing in only their second road game of the season, led 40-26 at the break and had a shot to go up in the final seconds.  DU will play at Siena Heights next Wednesday.

Playing at the Schaefer Center on the campus of Indiana Tech once again was a huge task for any WHAC school as the Panthers found out the hard way when the Warriors' Clyde McKinney hit a half-court shot with no time remaing to down DU 62-59.

Nathan Cox posted a team high 21 points in the loss as James Humphrey and James Nelson also finished in double-digits with 15 and 12 points respectively.

Davenport (10-1, 1-1 WHAC), led 40-26 at halftime after finishing the first half with a flurry.  Leading by 10 with under 10 seconds in the opening 20 minutes of play, Lonnie Fairfax (Detroit, Mich.) hit a runner in the lane and then stole the inbound pass and found James Humphrey (Fort Wayne, Ind.) underneath for a slam as time expired to give the Panthers their 14 point lead.

The Warriors (9-2, 2-0 WHAC) slowly began to chip away at the Davenport lead and limited the Panthers to just five points over the first 11:30 of the second half.  Tech used the drought from DU to their advantage and took their first lead of the game with 9:10 remaining at 47-45.

The lead grew to as many as five for Indiana Tech before Davenport finally tied the score at 59 all with 1:10 to play on a basket by Nathan Cox (Flushing, Mich.).  DU forced a turnover on the ensuing possession and had the ball with 40 seconds remaining in the game.

Davenport got a decent look with just under 8 seconds on the clock by James Nelson (New Haven, Mich.) but it was no good and Tech outleted the ball to half-court where the dramatic shot by McKinney gave IT the three-point win.

Davenport hit 50% (21-42) of the their shots from the field and made three more free-throws than the Warriors but the difference came from behind the arc as Tech finished the night by nailing nine out of 16 attempts while DU made only three (all in the first half).

The loss is the first of the year for the Panthers who will remain on the road next Wednesday when they look to get back on track against Siena Heights University.  Game time is 7:30pm from Adrian.
