GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - A fifth straight GMHL crown is one game away as the Panthers downed visiting Michigan on Friday night 9-2. Davenport and the Wolverines will tangle on Saturday night in Ann Arbor as DU improves to 26-14 on the year.
DU opened the game in the first period with two goals on their first two shots. The Panthers got the goals from Matt Morang (Dearborn, Mich.) and Bobby Collar (Brighton, Mich.).
DU followed with a third midway through the first period off the stick of Paul Ziemke (Caledonia, Mich.) as they took a 3-1 lead into the locker room.
Opening the second with more intensity and speed, the Panthers scored three more as they got the first shorthanded from Phillip Tesoriero (Boulder, Colo.) and second from Brit Ouellette (Windsor, Ontario).
Davenport kept up the intensity in the third as they continued to outscore UofM 3-1 in the final 20 minutes winning by the final score of 9-2.
Scott Knight (Grand Rapids, Mich.) got the win in net for the Panthers as they will travel to Ann Arbor on Saturday night for their final GMHL game of the year. A win gives the Panthers a fifth straight regular season title.
