MARION, Ind. - With only three hits in game one against Judson University the Panthers fell 2-1, before rebounding in game two against the University of St. Francis (Ill.) 10-2. DU is now 18-6 on the year and will conclude the tournament tomorrow with games against Indiana Wesleyan and Olivet Nazarene.
Game One: Judson -2 Davenport - 1
Davenport scored its lone run of the game in the second inning off an RBI SAC fly from Karlee Despres (Belmont, Mich.) scoring Ali Dawson (Galesburg, Mich.) from third. Judson would answer back in the top of the third with a homerun to tie the game at one. The Eagles would add another in the sixth inning after a DU error and then a double by Judson.
The Panthers would leave runners in scoring position in both the sixth and seventh innings to suffer their six loss of the season and second in a row. Heather Brusokas (Glendale, Calif.) would have all three of the DU hits going 3-3 with a double in the game. Despres would take the loss on the mound for Davenport giving up just five hits and striking out three.
Game Two: Davenport - 10 St. Francis (Ill.) - 2 (5 Innings)
After a few shuffles in the Davenport line-up the Panthers would wake up their bats and explode for ten runs in the game. Brusokas would start the scoring in the first off an RBI single from Kelsey Egyhazi (Mishawaka, Ind.). DU would add another in the third before pushing five across in the fourth from homeruns by Nikki Aldrich (Robinson, Ill.) and Brusokas. DU would then add two more in the fifth to go up 10-2 and seal the victory.
Brianna Carpenter (Irvine, Calif.) would get her eight win the mound giving up just one earned run and striking out eight in five innings of work.
Haley Stehouwer (Wyoming, Mich.) would go 2-4 with two doubles, while Ashlee Olsen (Rockford, Mich.), Brusokas, and Aldrich would all have two hits as well.
Davenport is now 18-6 on the year and will conclude the Indiana Wesleyan Tournament tomorrow. DU will take on Olivet Nazarene at 10:00am and Indiana Wesleyan at 12:00pm.
