DU Defeats Ball State 20-3 before Falling to Michigan 8-4

March 21, 2010

Box Score: Game 1 | Game 2

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Davenport used a strong offensive attack in game one today to down Ball State 20-3, but the competition got much stronger in game two as they fell 8-4 to Michigan. Davenport finished their home play day weekend with a record of 1-3.

In the opening game of the day, it was all about the offense for Davenport as they rebounded from two tough losses on Saturday to defeat Ball State 20-3. DU fired 23 shots on goal in the opening period while netting 13 of them to take a commanding 13-1 lead into the locker room.

DU then came out with the same offense in the second putting up seven more goals for the 20-3 win. DU was led in scoring by Kendra Stieg (Reed City, Mich.) who finished with five goals. Valerie Carr (Holt, Mich.) chipped in with four and Alex Kuzma (Hudsonville, Mich.) posted three.

The second game was much more of a defensive battle as DU dropped a close game to Michigan's B Team. The offense was not hitting on all cylinders in the opening half as DU fell behind 3-1.

DU did rebound to post three goals in the second, but were unable to complete the comeback falling 8-4.

Four different Panthers scored for DU (Carr, Helena and Kendra Stieg as well as Jessica Talcott).

DU will return to the Turf Field on March 31 when they host Grand Valley State at 6:00 PM.
