Box Score Box Score

DEARBORN, Mich. - #14 Davenport raced out to a 33-8 lead only to see the host Wolves get it down to just six in the closing minutes, but the Panthers held on for an 83-74 win on the road.  The win lifts DU to 19-4 on the year and 6-3 in league play.  DU will host Indiana Tech on Wednesday in a critical WHAC matchup.

After suffering a tough 8-point setback to #6 Cornerstone on Wednesday, Davenport came out firing on all cylinders today and scored the games' first 11 points to take full control in the opening half.  The Panthers got buckets from four different players in the run.

After the Wolves finally got on the board with 16:37 on the clock, DU's lead continued to grow over the next 8:50 of game clock as they led by 25 at 33-8.  The final 18-0 spurt to reach 33-8 was highlighted by two long balls from JaVontae Ford (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and one from Nathan Cox (Flushing, Mich.).

The three-pointer from Cox was part of a game and career high 31 points for the senior.  The 31 points tallied missed the school record of 32 by just a single point.  That mark is held by teammate Kale Waaso (South Haven, Mich.).

The Wolves though would not back down as DU got some vaulable minutes for their bench and the host team rallied to make it a 14-point game at halftime 41-27.

Opening the second half was very similar to the first other than DU hitting a majority of their shots.  The Panthers extended the lead to over 20 points on three different occasions and held a 60-38 advantage with 13:20 to play in the game.

UM-Dearborn then turned up the full-court pressure and was able to wind the lead down to just 6 points with 3:38 to play in the game. Turnovers in the back court and missed shots that came with alot of time on the shot clock hurt Davenport during the Woles run.

The free-throw line and paint area then became Davenport's best friend and James Humphrey (Fort Wayne, Ind.) along with the strong play of Nathan Cox (Flushing, Mich.) enabled Davenport to remain in control to post the 9-point win.

Nathan Cox (Flushing, Mich.) finished with a career high 31 points on 10-13 shooting from the field and 9-10 from the charity stripe. JaVontae Ford (Grand Rapids, Mich.) finished with a double-double of 16 points and 10 reounds while the Panthers also got 9 rebounds from Cox.

#14 Davenport will host both games next week beginning with #RV Indiana Tech on Wednesday at 7:30pm. The game will be aired live on the DAN.
