GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After playing four straight conference games Davenport took on soon to be NCAA D2 Malone University in which they fell in the final minutes 2-1. The loss puts DU at 10-6 on the year as they return to conference action Tuesday against Cornerstone.

From the start of the game it looked as if it was going to be an offensive battle with both teams scoring in the first 11 minutes of play. Malone struck first at the 9:52 mark when Jasmine Evans found the left corner of the net. The 1-0 lead only lasted for a little over a minute as DU's Tam Grzybowski fed Lindsey Klein off a corner kick for her first goal of the season and her career.

The remaining 34 minutes in the first half and then the first 42 of the second half turned into a defensive battle with no scoring by either team. Davenport had their fair share of chances taking seven corner kicks compared to Malone's two but could not find the back of the net.

Tied up at 1-1 going into the final minutes Malone took advantage of an open midfield shot that just sailed over Catherine Howards hands to give the Pioneers the 2-1 edge and eventual victory.

In net Howard recorded nine save as DU was outshot by Malone 25-14 on the night.

Davenport will return to WHAC play on Tuesday when they host cross-town rival Cornerstone University. The Panthers will look to get just their second win in program history over the Golden Eagles in the 4pm match on the DU Turf Field. Live video and stats will be available at www.dupanthers.com.

Post-Game Quotes – Head Coach Chris Allen & Britteny Willis

On overall play of team: “Disappointing loss tonight but Malone is a very solid team that is much improved from last year. We had our chances on the field but just couldn't put the ball away, overall though I am pleased with our performance”

One thing she will take away from playing soccer at DU: “The friendships and the memories. I have been able to meet so many people from all over the world and that is something I would have never experience if I wasn't given the opportunity to play soccer at Davenport.”
