Panthers Complete Sweep of UM-Dearborn with 7-2 Win

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – For the second straight game, Davenport used a powerful offensive attack to take both games for UM-Dearborn. The Panthers got three goals in the first, two in the second, and two more in the third en rout to a 7-2 win. Davenport will be in action again next weekend when they travel to Eastern Michigan.

Davenport got on the board first when Jeff Slusser finished off a pass from Ben Dykstra just under eight minutes into the game. Phil Wendecker put Davenport up 2-0 when he scored with six and a half minutes left in the period. Blake Damerow scored the final goal of the period for the Panthers when he put away a rebound off a Mason Bohlinger shot.

The Panthers got off to another quick start in the second period when Bohlinger found Ben Dykstra for the goal. With just over a minute to play in the period, Bo Jacobs scored an improbable goal sending the puck off the boards from near mid-ice passed a distracted UM-Dearborn goalie.

Just less than four minutes into the third Philip Tesoriero broke away and finished the short-handed goal to put the Panthers up 6-0. After a Dearborn goal, Dustin Wischmeyer scored for DU to increase the lead back out to six. The Wolves added another goal but wouldn't get any close as the Panthers went on to win 7-2.

Phil Graveline was in net for Davenport and stopped 26 of the 28 shots he faced for his fourth straight win. The Panthers improves to 11-9 on the season and 9-1 in GLCHL play. With the win the Panthers move into first place in the conference. Davenport will be in action again next weekend when they travel to Eastern Michigan for a pair of games.

Post-Game Notes – Head Coach Phil Sweeney

Thoughts on Game – “I'm very happy with our defensive effort. We have been stressing to keep teams to two goals or less and we did that tonight. Our offense is clicking right now, I'm glad we are playing next weekend.”

On moving into first place in conference – “I'm very happy, but I know we have a lot of work to do. I couldn't tell you who was in first place last season on December 10th but I could tell you who won the conference. That is our goal and we have put ourselves in position to achieve that goal.”
