MISHAWAKA, Ind. - The Davenport men's basketball team took to the road for non-conference play at the Gates Automative Classic hosted by Bethel University.  The Panthers took on Holy Cross and came out with a 105-57 victory.  Four players reached double digits as DU extended their record to 12-0.

The Panthers were a little slow out of the gate allowing Holy Cross to take the early lead.  Davenport did not pull out in front until the 10:53 mark on two free throws from JaVontae Ford.  After those two shots Davenport was up 19-17.  DU would retain the lead, but Holy Cross kept it close with the score 45-31 going into the intermission.

Davenport turned up the defensive pressure in the second half outscoring Holy Cross 60-26.  The Panthers sealed the game with a 14-2 run late in the second half.  Brendan Cooper closed out the run with a basket from the paint to give DU their largest lead of the game--52 points.

Ford led the offense with 19 points, while James Humphrey and Demacious White followed close behind with 18 points each.  James Nelson also reached double digits with 16 points.  Ford was the top rebounder with 8, while Nelson chipped in 5 steals.

Post-Game Comments

Head Coach Burt Paddock on halftime adjustments - "It was more about our energy and readiness in the first half.  We let Holy Cross feel good by making a few shots early and we didn't help ourselve out when we turned the ball over in transition.  At halftime we made sure we covered their perimeter players better.  We took care of the ball, rebound very well, and got back to playing Davenport style basketball."
