Davenport Comes Up Short in 15-13 Loss to GVSU

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport hung tough for most of the game but came up short in the last few minutes in a 15-13 loss to Grand Valley State University. The Panthers, who never had the lead, tied the game with about 14 minutes remaining but a couple goals by GVSU put the game out of reach for the Panthers. Davenport will be in action tomorrow at 9:45 AM against Olivet College.

The game went back and forth early. Grand Valley got on the board first less than minute in to the game. Davenport responded with a goal by Brittanie Bond (Rockford, Mich.) two minutes later. After another Grand Valley goal, Monaye Ramirez (Grand Rapids, Mich.)scored for Davenport to tie the game at 2-2 with 22:06 remaining.

Grand Valley controlled the next several minutes of the game, scoring four unanswered goals to take a 6-2 lead with 12:11 remaining. The Panthers responded with a run of their own getting goals from Michon Moline (Rockford, Mich.), Jessica Talcott (Ada, Mich.), and Brittanie Bond to pull within one with 4 minutes left in the half. Grand Valley got a goal with 2 second remaining in the half to lead Davenport 7-5 at the half.

Davenport came out quick in the second, getting two goals by Michon Moline to tie the game at 7-7 less than three minutes into the second half.

Grand Valley scored the next three goals to take a 10-7 lead. The Panthers responded by scoring four of the next five goals to tie the game at 11-11 with 13:52 remaining in the game. The Davenport goals were scored by Alex Kuzma (Hudsonville, Mich.), Jessica Talcott, and a pair by Michon Moline.

Grand Valley put the game out of reach by scoring the next four goals. Davenport got a goal by Monaye Ramirez with 3:20 remaining but wouldn't be able to find the back of the net again until a goal by Jessica Talcott with 4 second left.

Michon Moline netted 5 goals to tie a game high and Jessica Talcott added 3 goals for the Panthers. Brittanie Bond (2), Monaye Ramirez (2), and Alex Kuzma each added goals for Davenport.

Davenport will take on Olivet College on Saturday at 9:45 AM.
