The Opponent: #7 Rhode Island
The Series: First time meeting between two programs
Scouting Report: The Rams are led on offense up front by Shawn Tingley, David Macalino and Kyle Karnnich. Tingley leads the Rams with 45 points with 26 of those being assists. Macalino leads the Rams with 20 goals and has 31 points. Krannich is second on the Rams in overall scoring with 35 points. Rhode Island plays a very conservative dump and chase game. They like to keep the puck low and force teams to beat them the entire length of the ice. The Rams are not flashy but their style is an effective style of play.
The Rams feature one of the best Defensive cores in the country. They are led by Alan Dionne and Dan Lassik, both of whom attended the World University Games this past winter. Dionne is a very aggressive defenseman as he has 38 points for Rhode Island including 9 power play goals. Lassik is a very solid defenseman as well. The two d man will have one of their toughest tasks of the season in shutting down the high powered Panthers offense.
Rhode Island is a very disciplined team and they run their systems very good. They rely heavily on a stifling team defense. They make teams beat them all the way down the ice, and rarely turn the puck over and allow transition going the other way. #24 Devin Sheehan is a very aggressive forward that flies around the ice and will be something that the Panther D will have to look out after the puck has been dumped into their end. This will be a great contrast of styles as the physical Rams play a dump and chase system while the Panthers play a puck control style and look for all 5 players to touch the puck on the ice. Davenport will have to watch out for their defenseman rushing the play and supporting the Ram forwards. Davenport must stay out of the box against a very good Rhode Island team if they want to advance the National Championship SemiFinal game.
