GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Freshman Paige Eli converted two goals on Sunday afternoon and Lateshe Cannonier added the third as Davenport posted a 3-1 win over visiting Illinois Tech.  The lone goal against the Panthers was an own goal as DU improves to 4-1-0 on the season with a trip to Judson University set for September 7.

Davenport raced out to a two goal lead by halftime on Sunday afternoon and despite scoring upon themselves to cut the margin in half, the Panthers held off a scrappy Scarlet Hawks team to post their second straight victory.

The opening twenty minutes saw each team pose serious threats but the first goal did not come until the 23rd minute when Paige Eli scored on a perfect ball put in the box by Karitas Elvarsdottir on a free-kick from just inside mid-field.  Eli made one touch on the ball and put it past the Tech keeper for a 1-0 lead.

The freshman forward added to her goal total in the 41st minute when she made a long run through the Hawks' defenders and beat the keeper one on one for a 2-0 Davenport lead.

Halftime saw the Illinois Tech team gain some rest after a tough game Saturday vs. Aquinas and the visitors came out strong with numerous scoring chances midway through the final 45 minutes. After sending a ball into the DU box in the 72nd minute, DU was unable to clear it and actually scored upon themselves to cut the margin in half.

Davenport stayed on the attack however and got an insurance goal from Latesha Cannonier with just under three minutes to play.  Lizzie Paul was credited with the assist as Cannonier recorded her third goal of the young season.

Catherine Howard got the win in net to improve to 3-1 on the year as the sophomore made six saves.
