Weekly Notes
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After setting single-season records and achieving its 50
th win in program history last Saturday, the Davenport women's soccer team will be well tested this week as it welcomes two Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference opponents to DU Turf Field looking to maintain first place in the league standings. The Lady Panthers will welcome back Beltline rival Aquinas Wednesday at 7 p.m., while welcoming Indiana Tech in a battle for the top spot in the league Saturday at 4 p.m.
The Lady Panthers, who enter the week with a 10-2-0 record overall and 3-0 in the WHAC, can also continue to rewrite the history books as they are one victory away from matching the all-time single-season wins column which is 11 set by last year's team.
Davenport and Aquinas have seen each other this season as the Lady Panthers blanked the Saints 6-0 in non-conference play back on Sept. 19.
Lizzie Paul recorded her second career hat trick and added an assist and
Tam Grzybowski also highlighted the night by notching three assists to tie a single-match record. Since their meeting, the Saints have gone 2-2-0. Melissa Hogan and Kelli Sprenger pace the Saints in goals with seven. Hogan also has two assists to lead the team in points with 16. The netminders have played by committee between Molly Brown, Betsy Carpenter, Jackie Gipe and Molly O'Conner. O'Conner has spent the most time between the posts, clocking in 558:45.
The Warriors, meanwhile, have been a somewhat surprise team in the WHAC. While they were picked to finish fourth behind the Panthers in the coaches' preseason poll, the Warriors have already upset the league's top two picks of Siena Heights and Aquinas. Tori Singstock paces the Warriors in goals (10) and points (22) while Natalie Zimmerman leads the team in the assist column with five. Jordan Roell has been the Warriors primary keeper this season, carrying a 1.04 goals-against average with 60 saves.
