SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The eighth-ranked Davenport men's basketball team got off to another slow start, but a 20-3 run during the final 10 minutes of the opening half ignited a spark that propelled the Panthers to a 66-43 Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference victory over newcomer Lawrence Tech Saturday afternoon.
Dominez Burnett paced the Panthers to their 10

Kyle Stidom and Ryan Dam contributed four apiece.
Davenport picked up where it left off in the second half, using a 12-2 run in the first six minutes to extend its run to 32-5 since the first half. Both Burnett and Brooks compiled eight points each during the second half as Davenport shot 46 percent from the field.
Post-Game Quotes – Head coach
Burt Paddock
On the game: “I thought guys had good energy with JaVonte Ford out of the game and
Gabe VanderJagt with his first game back. Our guys really stepped up. We started three freshmen on the road, in conference, and they played really well. I was excited by the effort of the kids and the energy by our bench. I'm so excited coming into the Madonna game on Wednesday.”
On the defensive performance: “I think they wanted to slow down. But the funny thing is a lot of time when teams do that, they fall apart late in the clock. It's hard to guard for 35 seconds and keep motivated. I was really excited about our effort for the first 25 minutes of the game to allow that many (five) shot clocks to go off, and several others were contested at the very end. We did pay attention to a lot of that. That's kind of who we are and what we have always been. Hopefully that will continue. It will have to be on Wednesday for us to win.”
Post-Game Notes
Davenport improves its record to 10-1 overall, 5-0 in the WHAC…The 45 points allowed is the second fewest allowed for Davenport this season and the sixth time it has held its opponents to under 60 points.
