GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Head men's basketball coach
Burt Paddock continues to add to next year's recruiting class as he recently added his second piece in the signing of Tre Tigner out of Detroit Consortium High School. The 6'7 forward provides DU with a great 1-2 punch of incoming freshman along with Northview's Kevin Rich.
The men's basketball team currently finds themselves atop the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) standings but they are continually adding for the future as Paddock announced the signing of Tre Tigner earlier this week. Detroit Consortium is currently the 5
th ranked team in Class C as of the poll announced on February 7.
“Our program took a giant step forward with the signing of Tre, commented Paddock. Tre has great size, terrific hands and moves incredibly well. At 6'7 he has a unique ability to play both inside and out and has great vision for a post player. Tre will fit in great with our already talented post core and will bring even more toughness which is always a good thing to possess for the wars of the WHAC. As we strive to create an atmosphere of championship basketball, Tre' should be a huge contributor for years to come.
Tre is currently averaging 12 points and 7 rebounds per night as he has helped the team to an 8-3 record and No. 5 ranking in Class C. As a junior, Tigner posted averages 7.3 points and 6.8 rebounds while leading his team to the MHSAA Final Four before falling to state champion Schoolcraft.
“We began to watch Tre' 3 yrs ago and felt he would go D2 if not fall into a D1 scholarship, added Paddock. However, my asst coaches did another great job in attracting a quality student-athlete to our program. Tre believes in the championship vision we are creating here at DU and is really excited to spend the next four years with the type of players we have recruited.”
