GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The women's lacrosse team looked to remain undefeated at home as they took on Urbana University today.  The Lady Panthers were able to execute down the stretch and pulled off the 12-11 victory raising their overall record to 2-4.

Michon Moline got the offense on the board for DU with an early goal, but Urbana quickly answered with two consecutive goals of their own to go up 2-1 early in the first period.  The Lady Panthers would rebound with two goals from Alyssa Dowden and Taylor Balch giving DU a 3-2 advantage.

By halftime Davenport had built a 9-5 lead.  Balch would add three more goals in the half and Dowden would add another of her own.  Valerie Carr and Schae Hoebeke also added goals for the Lady Panthers.

The second half proved to be much tighter.  Urbana made quick offensive work tying the score at 10.  Davenport went up 12-10 on scores from Lexi Kruse and Simone Hairston.  The Blue Knights would pull within one, but that would be as close as they would get.

Balch led all scorers with five.  Goalie Amanda Prins had a solid day with nine saves.  The Lady Panthers will be back in action on March 21 at Olivet College.

Alyssa Dowden on team's strategy today – “We wanted to score first and use our speed to our advantage.  We thought we could outrun and outlast them.”

Dowden on scoring her first goals – “This is only my sixth game ever so it's really exciting to get my first goals.  I'm just excited with how we played today under pressure.”
