MARION, Ind. – Davenport kicked off play in the Indiana Wesleyan Tournament this morning when they defeated Trinity Christian 4-1. Morgan Greenfield hit a two run shot in the fourth to give DU an overall record of 15-5 on the year. DU's second game of the day against Judson was cancelled due to rain.

After a 0-0 first inning, Davenport jumped on the board first capitalizing on a Trolls error to take the 1-0 lead. In the third Karlee Despres reached base after a walk and then advanced to second on an Ali Dawson single. Freshman Tami Weber then gave DU a 2-0 lead scoring Despres from second after a single to right field.

In the fourth Debra Burton started off the inning with a walk and was later brought home when Morgan Greenfield hit her first homerun of the season to put the Panthers up 4-0 headed into the fifth inning.

After a scoreless fifth, Trinity added an unearned run in the sixth before the game was called due to unplayable field conditions. Sam Cole picked up the win on the mound recording ten strikeouts and allowing just four hits.

DU's second game of the day against Judson was cancelled due to rain as DU will resume play tomorrow in Marion, Ind. for the final day of the Indiana Wesleyan Tournament. Stay tuned to www.dupanthers.com for game time and opponent information as changes are likely to occur for tomorrow.

Post Game Quotes – Ronda Varnesdeel

Playing in the rain and Greenfield's homerun: “It is just the nature of the game. Being an outdoor sport we always have to be prepared for any weather conditions that may hit and I think our girls responded well. It was nice to see Mo finally hit the ball well. It was a hit and run situation and she made a great swing on the ball.”

Post Game Notes

Davenport is now 3-0 all-time against the Trinity Christian Trolls…DU improves to 7-1 on the season when hitting a homerun and when playing in the state of Indiana they are now 5-7
